Chrolorng Bopata: Another Natural Resort

My daughter and other children are playing joyfully in the water

Battambang is a province located in northwestern Cambodia. The distance from Phnom Penh to the provincial town is about 300 kilometers. This province is not only rich in soil fertility, which is good for rice cultivation and other agricultural production; it has also many natural resorts and cultural heritages across provincial territory.

Chrolorng Bopata is a name of a natural resort, which is located in Phlov Meas commune, Ratanak Mondul district. People can go there via recently rehabilitated national road # 57, from Battambang in the direction to Pailin, at about 45km. When one reaches the cross-road at Pcheav village/Samlot, then turn left on a good maintained road for about 15 km. There will be a signboard to give direction for visitors. Just follow the bumpy road for about 2 km and we can reach the resort as final destination.

The resort was created by an oversea Cambodian, who has bought that 17 ha land several years ago. It is organized as a popular resort since 2004. The river is flowing across this farm, which creates a fascinating view and relaxed atmosphere. The farm’s owner charged reasonable entry fee to visit this resort. But, visitors received good environmental clean surroundings, safety and well-organized garden for photos lover. The river has water year around. But, the flow is stronger in the rainy season, and it is weaker in the dry season. I and my family went to visit this resort for the first time in 2008. Since then, we keep going to visit this place again and again, especially during Khmer New Year and other festivals. We can take a bath in the cool water, relax, and have a nice view of surrounding areas. There are always people come and visit this resort during weekends. Varieties of fruit trees were planted by farm’s owner in an organized manner. People can have lunch with family while at the same time relaxing, let the children playing, listening to the birds singing and water flowing.

It is important to note that this area was heavily mined and was one of the fiercest fighting zones between the government soldiers and the Khmer Rouge till 1996. The mines are gone. Now, Cambodian people enjoy peace and stability and the freedom to move to all over the country without facing any security threat, terrorism, except traffic accidents causing by careless driving behaviors and disrespect to the traffic law.

There are also several popular resorts this kind to visit such as: well-known Sek Sork, Chamlorng Kuoy, Thmar Tamrout, Samlot, Phnom Khieu, Chros Pechrda etc.
